Currently procrastinating from packing for China/Tokyo. :/

Now, my wonderful flist, I am currently in a bind. I can't decide whether to take Crisis Zone: Middle Eastern Politics, A History of Israel: Good Bad & Disputed or Film Genres and Media Hybrids. I can only do two of the three.

What do you guys think? These are my breadth subjects, since I'm doing a finance major. Or, I can not do any of them, and instead take more finance electives, or three management subjects to make up a management major as well, so that I graduate with a double major in finance/management. But frankly, the only management subject that didn't bore me to tears with its subject description was Career Management.

I have plenty of time to make my choice, but I just wanted your opinions, if you had any.

And a belated Merry Christmas to all on LJ. ♥

Now back to packing I go.

For the love of all things ASkars, WHY IS THERE AN AMERICAN REMAKE OF DEATH AT A FUNERAL with Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence?

WHY.

WHY?

WHY!1?!!?!?

D8<<<<<<<<<<<<<

The original was perfection, classic British black humour, SO WHY YOU GOTTA BE MESSIN’ WITH A GOOD THING?

I saw the trailer and it was distinctly unfunny. I do not like you, Chris Rock. Or you, Martin Lawrence. You cannot ever replace Rupert Graves or Matthew Macfayden. Don’t even fucking try. Why bother remaking a film, when you’re using the same shots and lines?FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

The only silver lining I can see in this - and it was frickin’ hard to find - is that James Marsden and Zoe Saldana are doing Alan Tudyk and Daisy Donovan’s roles as Simon and Martha. So, we’ll get James Marsden acting all shroomy and naked, BUT THIS IS NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE UP FOR THE ABYSMAL DECISION TO REMAKE THIS FILM.

UGH.

/rant

So got my results for the semester today, and I'm kind of impressed with myself! I got 71 for Organisational Behaviour, and 79 for Corporate Law. Amazing!!! My results for Augustan Rome haven't been released, but that's not surprising because my lecturer and tutor for that subject took part in the strike earlier in the year, so he's part of the NTEU blanket ban on releasing results.

I'm so happy with 79 for Corporate Law because that was a 100% exam, for which I did only 2 days of proper study <strike>even though I had a week to study for it.</strike> One mark off a high distinction, though. And towards the end of the 3 hour marathon I was rushing through the last questions in a frantic attempt to answer all the questions. So, awesome result for that subject. Well set for Taxation Law next year!

As for Organisational Behaviour, I'm also pleasantly surprised with 71 for that, because I felt I didn't answer the exam very well due to the fact that they questioned us on the topic I knew the least about, organisational change. I pretty much winged 50% of that exam. But to get 71 in the 50% final exam means that I must have gotten around 65% of the exam correct, because I'd averaged a 76% for the other half of the assessment. So again, pleasantly surprised!

Clearly doing 3 subjects a semester instead of 4 has it's upsides. I'm not worried about results for Augustan Rome because, c'mon. Arts subject, and it was an essay worth 32.75%.

In other news, bullet point style:

MOTHERFUCKING EPIC GLEE FINALE. OMFG.

I am enjoying work at David Jones. So, that is a major plus.

Also leaving for China/Tokyo in two and a half weeks! Crap, need to pack again.

And finally, I got a new phone! *dances* It's the Nokia E71 in black, 3 normally have it on the $49 cap plan, but as a Christmas promotion it's now available free on the $29 cap! WOOT! It's so shiny and pretty, and has mobile internet and Wi-fi capabilities. It's like a crackberry, I swear. I am in love with it.

And I have been neglecting LJ for my mistress tumblr. Gah. I'm sorry LJ, I'll come back to you, you know I always do. ♥

I'm happy because my mum bought me a dress today, YAY! It's black, demurely scooped, knee length, short length sleeves - in other words the perfect classic LBD. I have several LBDs already of course, but they're all party dresses and so are inappropriate for interviews, work and other more conservative type gatherings. So this makes me feel very happy, since my parents no longer buy me anything except the occasional uni textbook and metcards.

Other news: started work at DJ, finally. It's fairly easy work, serving people salad, mostly. Had hoped for women's fashions, but of course I get lumped into food, again. Whatever, leaving to go to China on the 28th of Dec anyway for 3 weeks, so I'll unfortunately be gone for most of my Christmas contract. But hey, haven't been back to visit the fam in China for 3 years now, so it's time. Also we're going to Toyko for a week too!! Which is AWESOME. Not missing out on going to Tokyo, especially when I'm not paying for the travel, heh. Visiting America for two weeks really took a huge hit on my bank account.. it's almost unreal when I think about how I actually spent around $5000 of my own money to go to New York, San Francisco and Palo Alto. Five thousand dollars. Christ.

I'm on tumblr now too, people! GK party! It was VERY confusing at first, but I've got the hang of it now, lol. Hilarity ensued when I tried to explain how tumblr worked to queenhenryviii. Let's just say it was an exercise in futility.

Also, going to get a new phone. I think I dropped mine one too many times, and now the battery life's all shot to hell. Gonna get the Nokia 6760 slide, which comes free with my cap plan anyway, so I don't have to buy it. Mobile internet here I come!

PS. New Moon was pretty bad, lol. Not enough lulzy moments or he of the face-only-a-mother-could-love but WOW LOOK AT HIS ABS to nearly make up for Kristen Stewart's unequivocally bad delivery, weird Edward appearing moments and plodding pace. The werewolves were really cool, as were the Volturi. Um, I guess it was enjoyable enough, but that's only because I didn't pay to see it. I think the girl who plays Alice is my new girlcrush, she is so cute. Also, is it wrong that I kinda found Michael Sheen attractive in it? ........ *crickets*

Ok just me then. Lol.

I drove today for almost 2 hours, driving from Balwyn to Broadmeadows. Broadmeadows, people. I don't think I've ever been that north. I did not appreciate almost getting shunted by some asshole truck driver, but hey, it's how we all learn, right? D; But other than that, YAY I love driving. \o/

Also, my nose has finally stopped peeling from when it got sunburnt over a week ago. This is a major win.

Due to the seemingly large amount of time I seem to have on my hands, I made a new header for myself. Only problem is now I stare at it for inordinate amounts of time... um. Ok I take that back, staring at Alexander Skarsgard and Stark Sands is absolutely not a problem. ...I'm totally not weird. Although I feel like GK has given me kevlar!hair and leg!strappings kinks, gg. Again, I stress the not weird statement.

I also just realised that today is the 1st of December, meaning that in 20 days time I will be turning 20! Omg where does the time go? ;A;

Seeing New Moon tonight, for what is sure to be EPIC LULZ.
Totally just got sucked into watching some random movie on tv just because it had Paul Bettany and Nikolaj Costa-Waldeau in it. UNF blonde-ness. Just like you!

INTERJECT: Jo has spilled two coffees - one into my lap - A FULL CUP OF HOT COFFEE - during a plane ride, literally just an hour before landing in Melbourne, another full cup all over her desk monthly planner (the monthly planner did not survive), and then a full glass of soft drink onto a customer at work, and a glass of Solo at home - all in the past two months. The Solo was last night.

J: I know! I can't believe how often I've been doing it! It's like I'm cursed... I really didn't mean to last night, I was just reaching for the glass....with conviction.
S: It didn't even look like you were reaching for it, it just looked like you went- *HYAH!*

ACTION: I fling my left arm out emphatically to mimic Jo's arm action. A ring flies off my index finger and hits Jo squarely in the neck - right in the jugular.

CUT TO SCENE:

J: *clutching neck with hand, choked sounds* Argh! Friendly fire! I'm hit!
S: ROFLMFAO
J: *recovers from laughing doubled over* I nearly blacked out I think, and then I looked down and saw your ring and was like, WTF? Like that time when you kicked me in the chest; I was in so much shock - I literally thought I was having a heart attack!
S: HAHAHA - yeah well, I read those kind of books too, but you don't see me being all concerned about it.
J: Oh man, there should definitely be cameras documenting our lives. That was perfect, you can't script that shit!
S: INORITE! I was pretty fuckin' ninja - my aim was DEAD ON LOL.
It's just past 8AM and already it's 30 degrees C out. This heatwave business? DNW. SO DNW. D:

It's not even the end of November, summer proper hasn't even begun for us (late January through February in Melbourne is the hottest period), and we're already having these heatwaves - all during our exam period, no less, JFC.

Speaking of exams but, I AM FINALLY FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! No more study of the books for at least 3 months! \o/ That last corporate law exam was so long (24 questions in 3 hours, plus half an hour of reading time, you fucking kidding me?), and my hand is cramped and sore, but it's all over and done with now thank god. After I walked out of the REB yesterday, went down to JB Hi-Fi and proceeded to hem and haw over some DVDs and whether or not to buy them. I opted not since I have... about $70 in my savings account and honestly can't really afford anything right now. But thankfully I start working again next week, so hopefully the coffers will start growing again soon.

I intended to buy Generation Kill by Evan Wright, but Readers Feast didn't have it in stock, and no other bookstore I went to stocked it at all. BOOOOO. Might just order it online. I did however, allow myself to buy Nathaniel Fick's book, One Bullet Away. Started reading it. Am in love. Fuck, it's so good. I'm only up to chapter 8, and although I can't relate to anything he went through at OCS, TBS and IOC, and beyond, there was a paragraph at the start of the book, when Fick explains what made him join the Marines in the first place that really resonated with me.

I went to Dartmouth intending to go go to med school. Failing a chemistry class had inspired my love of history, and I ended up majoring in the classics. By the summer of 1998, my classmates were signing six-figure contracts as consultants and investment bankers. I didn't understand what we, at age twenty-two, could possibly be consulted about. Others headed off to law school or medical school for a few more years of reading instead of living. None of it appealed to me.

If there's one thing I could pinpoint [despite the course work itself] that I don't like about my commerce course, is that at the age of 19 and 20 we are all competing for summer internships and going to interviews, networking, all in the hope of securing a graduate position (with a salary of at least $50,000 depending on your major) at one of the Big Four accounting firms, or the best investment banks - or anywhere at all. I know several people who don't have even this to worry about - they've had junior analyst positions at Deloitte and PriceWaterhouseCoopers since their first year.

I take part in none of it, because I personally feel as though I've learnt fuck all and have nothing to give as a consultant or investment banker or accountant. And I plan on going to graduate law school after, for more of what Fick calls "reading and not living". Whether than plan eventuates or not is irrelevant, but I hope that this precious book can provide the motivation it takes for me to get to a place I want to be in.

For the rest of today I'll be reading more of One Bullet Away, starting HBO's Band of Brothers, play a little Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and above all, staying cool in my pool. Hell yeah, love holidays. > :D

In other news, STARKERS SURPRISING RUDY AT A BOOK SIGNING IS SO MUCH WIN. OH BBs. Stop being adorable, boys. You're killing me. ♥ Rudy bb, your book is next on my booklist to buy XD

<lj-embed id="13" />

thanks to stark_sands for bringing this to my attention! this was on Oct 6, 2009 @0.53 min in

Josh Ray Person: See, Trombley asked about shooting people. I asked about pussy. The guy told me I'd get to go to Thailand and get all kinds of strange. What'd you ask about, Brad? Brad probably saw that T.V. commercial, the one with the knight that fucks up the dragon that turns into the Marine.
Cpl. Walt Hasser: Woo woo! Dress blues with a sword!
Cpl. Josh Ray Person: Fucking dress blues commercial man. That got so many fucking dudes. Now look at us: Trombley hasn't killed anybody, I'm half a world away from good Thai pussy, and Colbert is out here rolling around fuckbutt Iraq hunting for dragons in a MOPP suit that smells like four days of piss and ball sweat.
Cpl.
Our desktop computer keeps blue-screening. So frustrating considering we JUST got the hard disk replaced only a week ago, which took 2 weeks to get done in itself. I lost so much data (read: tv and movies I'd dled) when the first hard drive went, and now this shit keeps fucking up? Fuck that. At least I still have my trusty old HP, but WHY IS MY LAPTOP FAN SO FREAKIN' LOUD ;_______; so switching to a Macbook next year.

About to start the sprint writing of my 50% Augustan Rome take home exam, which consists of writing an essay of 1500 words. My lecturer was all: yeah, you shouldn't need to go past what we discussed in the tutes and the readings we gave you. Too bad I only ever read about half the readings, and each reading is only about 100 pages long. Ugh. In any case, I aim to have a very workable first draft of the whole thing done by the end of the day. Which is totally achievable, if only I didn't keep getting distracted by all the Gen Kill awesomeness that fills up my flist. Not that I'm complaining mind you...

Okay, off to write that essay now. My face is a mirror of Nick Riewoldt's right now.
OHITHAR, lj flist. It's been a superlong time - my last post was in May! - and my oh my the year has sure flown by. End-of-semester exams are again right around the corner, and I haven't learnt anything? Psssh, nothing new there. Revision, what revision?

Anyhoo, on to somewhat more interesting news: so the night before last, I was lucky enough to snag a free double pass to a showing of Flammen & Citronen, which was the opening night feature of the inaugural Nordic Film Festival. OMGWHAT!? SO EXCITEMENT OVER NORDIC FILM FESTIVAL. About damn time, Australia. Also, much ♥ to Cinema Nova.

In any case, the movie was beautiful, if overlong, and I am biased towards Danish film and actors in general, and this particular film had my Dansk favvie Mads Mikkelsen in period WWII Nazi-occupied Copenhagen. Although he spends much of this movie all shiny-faced and oily? D;

<centre>
See? He's super pretty in this picture.

Mmmm gun porn.

N'awww, aren't they cute!</centre>

So, I do a little research, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Thure is openly gay, and not just that, but was in Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken aka Love in Thoughts with August Diehl and Daniel Brühl! AND HE MADE OUT WITH AUGUST DIEHL OMGOMGOMG. I swear I have a gif of that somewhere. I need to revisit that movie. It's like collision of actors I know and love - bless the fact that the European film industry is small enough that there are literally 6 degrees of separation between actors.

<centre>
HELLO YOU FINE SPECIMENS OF MANLINESS.

Delicious.
</centre>

In other news, currently consumed with Generation Kill love. Except for the fact that the real Eric Kocher looks like this French guy I went on one date with, a lot.
1. Last December, what was your love life like?
Ha. Hahahhaa. What love life? It got a little interesting towards the end of December though.

2. Who's the funniest person you know?
Hmm, I definitely laugh the most with Jo.

4. Are you afraid to grow up?
Yes. Very much so.

5. What was your worst subject in school?
Maths. Fo'sho.

6. What do you do when you're sad?
Err watch/read nostalgic shit. When was the last time you cried?
Last time I really cried? Like outside a movie? About a week ago. Uni had just started again and all this other shit was happening and it was a really cathartic cry.

10. What was the last thing you drank?
Um, water. About 1:30am or 2am, something like that. Because I stay up late for no reason. Also since Jo moved in, we just hang out and do shit all and go to bed late.

15. Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?
Hmm, it probably does - you just don't see it now.

16. What's irritating you right now?
One of my nostrils is blocked. Also Jo won't stop reading The Emperor Mage by Tamora Pierce so I can't go to sleep coz she's on my bed! It's 2:30am and I have to get up in 7 hours, and she has to get up in 5 hours :/

17. Have you ever lied to your parents?
What sort of a question is that? It's Friday at noon, where are you?
At work.

20. Would you rather have love or money?
Ugh toughie. If you'd asked me that up until late last year I probably would've gone with money, but now I'm thinking I'd definitely go with love.

21. This time last year, what was your love life like?
Non-existent.

22. Who can you blame for your bad mood today?
Jerome. Thanks for skipping our econometrics tute! Also, first years in my management tute. Bleh! >:(
I've been in a depressive, negative, bad mood just generally lately though. I need to get out of this funk.

23. Did you ever waste too much time on a certain boy or girl?
Probably.

24. Do you wash your hair in the shower?
Srsly?

25. Do you care what others think about you?
Sure, sometimes.

26. If you're being extremely quiet, what does it mean?
It means I'm not talking to myself for once, or I'm trying to beat my best time for solitaire.

27. Last time you really laughed hard?
All the time with Jo. Quite possibly it had something to do with Jews, last night. (I love Jews.)

28. Who was the first person you talked to this morning?
Ummmmmmmm.... I think my Managing People and Organisations tutor; I apologised for being late. Otherwise, if you wanna be technical about it, it was Jo, at 1am or something.

29. Do you believe in celebrating anniversaries?
I guess?

30. What's in your pockets right now?
Tissues. And magic.
Recession? What recession when OHMIGOSH THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE WHICH IS A PRECIOUS GIFT FROM GOD IS UNDER ATTACK FROM HOMOSEXUALS!

Harvey Fierstein wrote it best when he said "America, it does not matter how many times you brush your teeth, if your insides are rotten, your breath will stink." "Now, before you rise up on your high horse to holler, "We're not against Civil Unions, just Gay Marriage", let me once again explain that THE SUPREME COURT HAS STATED THAT SEPARATE BUT EQUAL IS NOT EQUAL. And even if it were, civil unions are simply not equal to marriage."

There is something inherently wrong about a majority vote on minority rights.

And to those organizations railing against the "activist courts" let me just remind you all that without those "activist courts" African Americans and Asians and the Jews and any other minority wouldn't have their rights. Those activist courts granted interracial marriage, freedom from slavery, protection from persecution.

By their fruit, ye shall know them? Well FUCK so we shall. Dan Savage says it best.

Keith Olbermann says and emotes it better.

<lj-embed id="6" />

And it's not just Prop 8, it's about the ballot that was just passed in Arkansas the same day as Prop 8 that barred all unmarried couples and singles from adopting or fostering children. The law was specifically written to stop "the gay agenda", yet they had to make it all unmarried couples because of course gay couples can't get married, and to get around anti-discrimination laws the writers had to write it that way. And it was passed with a 57% majority. Despite the Governor of Arkansas and Senators begging voters not to because it would hurt the 3000 children in state care. It boggles the mind.

Haven't forgotten either that the Australian government passed our own Constitutional amendment stating that the defition of marriage was only between a man and woman. Still rather bitter about that.

If I was in America right now, you can bet all you have that I would be participating in those protests that are going to take place tonight across the country in favour of repealing Prop 8 and for gay rights in general. I will be there with them in spirit.

Peace.

<lj-embed id="5" />

Obviously this ad that I'm posting is too late. But still, it's a great ad.

I cannot WAIT for "Milk" to be released in Australia. How I kinda wish this film had been released now, when the public could have gone and seen it before Prop 8 was passed in California. Sure, it wouldn't have changed many people's minds about Prop 8, but if you can reach even one person, then it is worth it. Prop 8's passing definitely took some of the gloss off Obama's win. But still, YAY OBAMA \o/

There was someone in a forum (okay, fashion blog) who commented on that blogger's happy post on Obama's win that she "couldn't understand why people from other countries were so enthusiastic about Obama as her own country's people, it isn't your president and therefore doesn't affect you." Well I commented back, and aside from the fact that if America sneezes the whole world catches a cold (case in point, the financial crisis), that for me, it is a combination of factors. The fact that Obama is an incredible orator is one thing; he can seriously send chills down your spine with his speeches. I could listen to him speak all day. Big, powerful, emotive speeches always get to me - Harvey Milk's speech above is one. Martin Luther King's, Teddy Kennedy's. I love them all. Secondly, it is my personal belief that he speaks to those who are not white. To minorities; those who have been repressed, looked down on, insulted for the colour of their skin or their sexuality or whatever. And that is a big factor as to why non-Americans are so rapt with him. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

...now, back to exam revision.........

To anybody on my flist who is in California, please vote NO on Prop 8. <3

Wow, I haven't posted in here in over a month. So here I am at 1am updating xD This lull has not been for lack of news or haha, more links, but a few weeks ago I got a job at a local bakery so that combined with uni has meant I have been very busy. I also have upped stakes to sietjo.blogspot.com, but that's mainly an outlet for me to talk about clothes and shopping and such. So I shan't bother you guys here with my ramblings on that any longer ;) Unless of course, you want to subject yourself to such in which case visit the blog! And COMMENT PEOPLE, so I actually know people are reading the thing ;___;

Anyway, as those of you who do read the blog already, you all know that on Wednesday night Jo and I went and saw Wicked!!!!! OH MY GOD GUYS, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO AMAZING. If anyone has the chance to go and see a production of it GO DO IT! The costumes, the truly incredible and intricate stage design, and of course the songs! Stephen Schwartz is a genius. I have been listening to the official soundtrack for at least a month, and had my favourites that I listened to mostly. But having seen the production now, I have such a greater appreciation for all of the songs; you see the context and the characters' emotions. The songs No-one Mourns the Wicked and March of the Witch Hunters are particularly powerful when seen and heard live. There was this one particular ensemble actor who played one of the Ozian Witch Hunters who was very... intense. The hair, the makeup and his actions as part of the "mob" that make up the Witch Hunters as they sing "wickedness must be punished/kill the Witch!" was so well done you actually felt rather intimidated by him.

Ooh, also, after the production we went to the stage door and I managed to get my program signed! By Rob Mills, who played Fiyero (<33) and who is VERY friendly and proceeded to start a conversation with us which only made us look particularly star struck I think. He is very cute hehe. I used to think that he was a bit of a dick but he's obviously matured over the last several years post-Idol or so and it's clear that the role of Fiyero has definitely helped him grow as a serious actor and musician. Also, I got Lucy Durack's autograph, who plays Glinda the Good. She is so adorable and was also very nice even though I forgot to bring a pen *facepalm* I was too intimidated to ask for Amanda Harrison's signature though :( She was freaking incredible as Elphaba, later the Wicked Witch of the West. They all were. <333333 I want to see it again. :D:D:D The show is in Melbourne until at least January next year, and the season will probably be extended again. Yay!

In short. Go. See. Wicked. Or at the very least listen to some of the songs!

Otherwise................exams are in a week and a half. Shit. Why do I always leave revision to the last minute? Will I never learn? Haha. I think the answer to that is.. no. :/

PS: ;D

And thar be my new Marc by Marc Jacobs boots..........whenever they arrive from America. Might take a while unfortunately. :( Stupid paypal glitches.

So hurry up Seven and fast track the fifth season of Grey's already!

And Melbourne Storm beat Cronulla Sharks in the rugby league prelim tonight, yesssssss. That means they play off in their THIRD consecutive grand final next week and get the chance to defend their premiership which they won last year. Yay! Plus, AFL Grand Final is tomorrow! Should be a good game. But, before that I am going to the dentist at 9am tomorrow. Joy.

Lastly, I'm going to go see WICKED in a month with Jo! SO EXCITED. We got ridiculously good seats too: stalls row BB seats 25-6. That's third row centre. So stoked! It's right before SWOTVAC too, heh.

For shame, using them as a political prop.
Shit like this makes me so happy we don't live in America. So I can buy more shoes and black trousers. My nefariousness knows no bounds. Go to mine and Jo's blogspot for more details (plus photos of the shoes!) LOL hahaha. ;D
Also, almost finished The Stone Key! Except I do need to go back to about halfway where I skipped like, 100 pages. It. Is. Great. So who cares that it's at times (okay a lot of the time) annoyingly and badly written, I am seriously loving what happens and am thoroughly addicted once again. Can't wait for the last book! Let's hope it's published ON TIME.

And St Kilda - unsurprisingly - lost the prelim to Hawthorn. By 54 points, yikes. But I'm still proud of the boys for getting to the prelim at all, but I doubt we'll get that far next year unless our players really lift their game. So, yeah, I love him.

On politics:
Can this Planet be Saved?
Now That's Rich
Feeling No Pain
Blizzard of Lies
Palin's first televised interview with the press
McCain's Campaign Lies
Palin's pipeline years from being a reality
Making America Stupid
Palin's Alaskonomics <-- random Time Magazine article

On the economy:
Slow-mo Meltdown
Lehmans collapse, Merrill Lynch sold

And my favourites:
Know-Nothing Politics
The Resentment Strategy
Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes
The Palin-Whatshisname Ticket
She's Not Ready

If you guys can't see the article, just create an account.

"The 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, the GOP's vice-presidential nominee, is pregnant. The news was released by the McCain camp during a busy week—a hurricane, the Republican National Convention, Dick Cheney getting us into a war with Russia—so it didn't receive the coverage it deserved. To recap:

Seventeen-year-old Bristol Palin got her ass knocked up five or so months ago by 18-year-old Levi Johnston. Among the hobbies listed on Levi's since-yanked MySpace page—"fishing, shoot some shit, and just fuckin' chillin'"—was this revealing tidbit: "I don't want kids." But Bristol, says her mom, "made the decision on her own to keep the baby," and is now engaged to Levi "Shootin' Shit" Johnston.

As the adoptive parent of a child born to a pair of unwed teenagers, I'm certainly not in favor of abortion in all circumstances. But I believe that it's a choice teenagers should be able to make for themselves—with input from their families whenever possible—and, so it seems, does the GOP's VP nominee. Sarah Palin is pleased that her daughter made the decision—on her own—to keep the baby.

But Sarah Palin doesn't believe that other girls should be able to make their own decisions. Sarah Palin believes abortion should be illegal in almost every instance—including rape and incest. So Bristol Palin is being celebrated for making a choice that Sarah Palin would like to take away from all other American women. Apparently, today's GOP believes that choice is a special right reserved for the wayward daughters of Republican elected officials.

Oh, and Sarah Palin also believes that birth control shouldn't be made available to teenagers, she opposes medically accurate sex education, and she backs abstinence-until- marriage sex "education."

Sigh.

The GOP has poured hundreds of millions of dollars into abstinence "education" programs during the Bush years. I believe this enormous investment of public funds begs the obvious question: Is our children abstaining? Sarah Palin's aren't. Despite this massive outlay on the part of the American taxpayer and the example set by her Christian parents, Bristol Palin became sexually active while still in high school. Excuse me, but if abstinence education can't keep the daughter of the evangelical governor of Alaska off the cock, what hope is there for the daughters—and some of the sons—of average Americans?

I'm a cad for writing this, of course, because shortly before Bristol and Levi were paraded before cheering throngs at the Republican National Convention, the Palins asked the media to respect their daughter's privacy.

Another special right: When it comes to respecting your family's privacy, Palin and the GOP see no need. They want to micromanage the most intimate aspects of your private life. And if their own kids fail to live up to the standards that Palin and the GOP seek to impose on your family, well, that's a private matter between the Palins, their daughter, their God, and the thousands of screaming imbeciles in elephant hats waving McCain/Palin signs on the floor of the Republican National Convention."

I could rant myself but Dan Savage's pretty much perfectly encapsulates exactly what I would've said. Oh and I'd just like to point out the disgusting hypocrisy of the GOP yet again that after asking the media to respect the privacy of the Bristol Palin, the GOP proceeded to parade her and Levi in front of the media so that John McCain could molest them in public. Lovely.

And HAHAHA, me and queenhenryviii have started a style blog over on blogger.
