More Life: the Great Work begins.
28 October 2007 @ 11:55 am
I was just reading the Age yesterday, and VCE ENTER results come out on December 17th. That's a week later than it normally comes out, but it also gives us enough time, with breathing space, to go to Merricks for Schoolies! So, exams finish on November 22nd - that's us Chinese language people - and then Suzy and BJ both have Monash medicine interviews in late November and early December. BJ yours is the December 6th right? And results come out on the 17th, so I'm thinking.. we leave 8th or 9th, and spend 5 days there, which means we come back around the 12th or 13th. Tell me what you think.

Anyways, the AFL fixture for the 2008 premiership season came out yesterday (or the day before, whatever it was), and St Kilda have a pretty nice draw. We have 16 games free-to-air! This is great: I'll definitely be watching! XD And/or just go to the games themselves. I'm still debating whether to buy membership, but I'll leave that till after exams to decide.

September means a lot of things in Melbourne - spring, school holidays (though not for us with our frantic studying, tsfx lectures and mock exams T___T), but more interestingly, it's the month of AFL finals. And unfortunately this year St Kilda will not be taking part. I was resigned to this fate about halfway through the season where we lost about 4 games in a row, but then we had that little burst of form after the mid-year break and I began to hope.. well that's dashed now. We had a chance, we really did, but the slip ups against the Bulldogs and Collingwood really cost in the end. For us to sneak into the eight, Adelaide had to lose to Collingwood, but they won.

We still won our last game of the season today though, which was nice. Richmond gave us a right ol' scare. I suppose the boys are tired and just want the season to end so they can rest and begin training after Christmas proper. Get all the injury niggles settled. Operations. Retirements. Two of the Saints greats have hung up the boots today: Fraser Gherig and Andrew Thompson. Both 200+ games - Andrew with around 230, Gherig with 255. 10 years in the making. It'll be a different St Kilda lineup next year without Fraser menacing the forward line - a real character with so much strength and a great goalkicker. The last goalkicker to kick 100 goals in a season, back in 2004 in fact. Andrew, club best and fairest, making it to AFL level the hard way, 3rd oldest player in the AFL. Great career and a loyal steadfast servant of the club. Our young guys are really going to have to step it up in the preseason.

Robert Harvey will make his decision soon, and I for one hope he will go on next year, as a 37 yr old man. The oldest man currently in the league; he plays like he's 27. I'd hate to think he's played his last game and won't get the sendoff the veteran deserves as one of the most decorated players ever.

This year will be a landmark with respect to retirements; so many great players will be hanging up the boots, or already have done so. Grand Final Day with the procession of retiring players will be fair special.

Random man: *into my ear* "Go Pies!"
Me: *smile that looked more like a grimance*
RM: "Sorry"
Me: *smirk*
RM: "Hope you had a nice day anyway."
Me: *graciously* "Yeah, I did."

I'm sorry, but since when do perfect strangers have the right to randomly start speaking to me? Hmm? Yes well, St Kilda lost by 9 points to Collingwood. And seemingly these people think they have the right to just come up to you and gloat in your face. Lovely. ~_^ I had fun anyway, despite the fact it rained the entire match, and since it was the MCG there is no roof and so not only was it raining it was also about 8 degrees and windy. First of all, me, Sarah and Kathryn sat in the wrong seats (damn you non-helpful seater person) and then the skies opened up a bit more and it really started to come down on us. At halftime we abandoned our seats and stood under shelter after buying obscenely priced hot chips and watched the rest of the game cold, but at least not wet, standing up. And omg Sarah had to sit next to this enormous man (a Saints fan at least) who kept on drinking beers. XDD I'm also quite sure this guy tried to hit on me, but that's another story. But I bought a St Kilda scarf! yay. :3

So... Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is coming out on Wednesday.. that's two days!!! I am inordinately excited for this. I'm debating whether to go on Wednesday, or wait till Friday, since on Thursday I'm going to [info]tangledtale's house. As none of you (besides the lovely Jie) bothered to answer my email, I'll just go with my brother. Plus, I've been thinking about what will happen in the last book, since that comes out in less than two weeks, and I've managed to convince myself that Snape is actually good, and not a baddie. Anyone else agree with me?

Finally they are here. Although they're not 'holidays', they're 'teacher-free periods'. T____T Just all a part of Yr 12 I guess. So much work to do. Biol: homeostasis. Chem: ethene and sulfuric acid; equilibrium. French: everything. Lit: essay. Write up notes for biol and chem. The task seems nigh impossible, insurmountable. I don't even want to start. I'm fatigued even thinking about it. D: I/We have so much planned. Chadstone on Wednesday, flu shots on Thursday, and TSFX on the second week of the hols from Tuesday to Friday. (Suzy, you're coming to them right?) And the Matthew Bourne Swan Lake ballet on Thursday week as well! Plus, I want to get another formal dress... and I have my eye on this LIFEwithBIRD black one from David Jones. >_>" I like it more, and well, I'll be using my own money this time, if I get it.

AFL stuffs = WE WON!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D )

Ok. Bad news. I have lost my fucking metcard. Fucking hey. HOW? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??? I used it at Flinders, and then when I checked my blazer pocket the next day, IT WASN'T THERE. Nightmare! $200 that. So now, I'm hoping against hope that I lost it at the station and some kind person handed it in to lost property. Otherwise - I dunno. I guess I'll just have to get another one. D8

Tomorrow:  going to buy a new tv in the afternoon. Widescreen LCD digital oh yeah. :D

The AFL NAB Draft was on this morning from 10 till 12. The Saints picked up David Armitage (9), Brad Howard (27), Jarryd Allen (59) and redrafted Matthew Ferguson (74) who we delisted but picked up again. Armitage and Howard are both midfielders; and especially Armitage has got excellent endurance, very agile and hard at the ball, our first round. I was a little disappointed that we didn't pick Jack Riewoldt, who is Nick's cousin; instead he went to Richmond. Guh my brother's team -_____- At least he didn't go to Collingwood! Allen is a marking forward type, and Ferguson in our defence. So, not bad pickups I think. Johnny Beveridge didn't come through with his trademark smokey at the end of the draft! D: XD Ah well, can't have 'em every year I guess; although Howard is a bit of a smokey.

Mum's gone off somewhere, presumably to vote. I don't like either Labour or Liberal much, but I'm rooting for Labour, because frankly Ted Ballieu irks me in his Toorak Melbourne Grammarian finger in 20 million pies persona. The Liberal party promises have been many, and I don't buy a whole lot of them. A desalination plant you say? Let me get this straight, the FEDERAL government won't build one, but you expect us to believe that YOU will?? Yeah, whatever.

And another thing that has been polluting my local vicinity, is the presence of a Family First billboard only a few houses down from me. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. I seriously just wanted to go and deface it. The guy on it actually looks like the devil. Ironic huh? Anyways, thankfully Labour has aligned itself with the Greens this time, as opposed to the fucking Family First caucus. Blergh.

I was just reading RUSSH (awesome magazine) and I found out that there will be this Rooftop Cinema thing in the city (cnr Swanston & Elizabeth, upstairs) running from December 12 - April 9. Here's the full program: http://www.rooftopcinema.com.au/fullprog.html I say we all go one day :DD There are some pretty cool films showing. Buying tickets looks like it'll be a bitch though.

And it's the Rugby League Tri-Nations final tonight!! :DD

I ♥ Melbourne. We should just go exploring the city one day. :333

Ohohohoh! ST KILDA HAS A NEW CO-MAJOR SPONSOR!!  It's Vodafone! This is great news.

Nick Riewoldt & Luke Ball

They're so cute. :D Also surprising is that the Saints have delisted Troy Schwarze. Didn't see that one coming. Ah well. He was good, but by no means incredible. So.. apparently we're on the lookout for perhaps a ruck in the national draft Saturday week. I know it's so sad, but I'm really excited!! XD I have been in footy withdrawals since season ended, and I'll get a hit because SEN will be covering the entire day; which clubs have taken who etc etc. Personally I would probably like to see the club pick a fast midfielder type. We need another one of those in order to seriously compete. Although if we could just get Luke Ball fully fit that would seriously help us there, as he had pretty severe groin injuries which hindered his running speed and kicking effectiveness.

The weather has been insane in Melbourne. It's currently about 7 degrees Celcius outside. And we're in the middle of November! We should be having 20+ days. Instead we get snow. Snow. Well, technically not in city or suburban Melbourne, but in the Dandenongs and Gippsland and Ballarat it's been snowing pretty consistently all day. After one of the hottest October's on record we have one of the coldest November's. I like the cold, but preferably above 15 degrees would be nice. But that's Melbourne for you.

Going into the city tomorrow to buy my textbooks for next year, and hopefully to sell the ones I have now. Got my exam marks back too... I did really well in the written and reading parts for French, averageish for oral (my great weakness) and pretty good in listening. Listening's really hard now :S They talk so fast and usually you can only pick a couple of words out. Chinese was great as usual. Would've gotten full marks if it weren't for a couple of spelling mistakes T__T Chem was pretty good too, happy with my score. But I really want to know what I got for lit! Seeing as she said they were 'lovely'... I wonder when I'll get my biol marks back?

Also I have budgeted for the things I want to buy, and it comes up to about $400. I seriously did not expect that. Craps. I need to increase my hours at work. Brown leather sandals: $130 thereabouts. Shorts: $40-50 Bikini: $140 thereabouts. And also finally getting that iPod, parents pay $120 I pay the remaining $100, seeing as that's my birthday and xmas present. I already have $150 so I need about $300 more... and that's not even including the books and movies and magazines I'll be buying as well! And the Chanel nail varnish I want. DD8 which incidentally is fucking $37! Yeah I don't think I'll actually get that one, but a girl can dream! ;D
